Caption
Amal from Syria is 11 years old. She has lived in a tent in Lebanon for more than half her life. Amal has never been to school and spends her days at home with her five siblings. Because of her family's difficult economic situation, Amal's mother wanted to force her to marry last year.
Once a week, Amal visits Plan International's child centre where she received the support she needed to convince her mother not to marry her off. "I told her I was too young, that I didn't want to get married. I want to go to school, not just stay at home."
