Caption
Amal was only four years old when her family was forced to flee the bomb-ravaged city of Idlib. She doesn't remember much about their flight and Syria. Now living in northern Lebanon, she has never been to school and was next in line for marriage after her two sisters, aged 15 and 16, were married off.
"Mum wanted me to be married off because she doesn't have any money. I didn't know anything about the man and said that I didn't want to, because I was too young. I want to go to school", Amal says.
But since Amal and her younger brother stated attending Plan International's support centre for vulnerable Syrian and Lebanese children in the Akkar area. Although Amal hasn't had any schooling yet, her marriage has been called off and she has stopped working as a maid.
