Plan International held a group consultation with girls in Nepal to discuss the way girls and young women are represented and portrayed in media and entertainment as part of the Equal Representation pillar of the Girls Get Equal campaign.
21 girls attended the workshop and debated the damaging gender stereotypes in popular media and entertainment that including TV, social media and films. Negative stereotypes limit girls’ ambitions and reinforce discrimination. They tell girls what to expect and what others expect from them. Getting rid of these tired old stereotypes will help girls unlock their potential and become leaders.
