Violence and armed conflict in northern Mozambique has caused one of the fastest-growing displacement crises in the world. The conflict has destroyed people’s jobs, lives and hopes for the future and has left hundreds of thousands of people in Cabo Delgado with no access to their lands and no means of earning a living. Families are living a hand to mouth existence causing food insecurity and malnutrition to increase.
11-year-old Amina lives in a resettlement centre in Chiure District with her parents and sister. Although finding food is a daily struggle, Amina still makes sure she goes to school every day. “I wake up at 5am to walk to school. I study for four hours and I come every day. I do not have breakfast so sometimes I get very tired. When I finish school I want to become a teacher."
