Plan International is working alongside communities in Niger facing food insecurity to help strengthen their resilience and adapt to the changing climate. We have set up learning and nutrition centres where women can bring their children to have their weight checked and be screened for malnutrition, as well as learn healthy nutrition and childcare practices.
Today, the women are being taught how to make ‘Doungouri Da mo’ one of Niger’s most popular dishes made from rice and cowpeas. Some women call it a miracle recipe as it is simple to make but very nutritious for children, pregnant women and nursing mother. The women get to work measuring the right amount of rice and cowpeas to cook, they are taught how to adjust the measurements according to how many children they are cooking for.
