Amana lives in Akkar district with her husband and seven children. No one in the family has any work and they have no income. Amana says she tries to encourage her children to be content, but this is increasingly difficult when they are hungry.
“My children cry every morning because they are hungry and there is no food for breakfast. It’s impossible for me to explain to them why there is no food at the table. We are not living, we are merely surviving. We haven’t eaten anything in three days.”
Unable to afford electricity, Amana and her children live in a house which is cold, damp and dark. “I feel sorry for my children and feel so very hopeless. I don’t want money, I want a safe roof over my children’s heads and food on the table.’’
