The world is in the midst of a devastating food crisis. Across the globe, in countries such as Somalia where 11-year-old Najma says the crisis is worse for girls. “Even if girls are hungry, we only eat leftovers, if there is any left. The younger children eat first... Mothers do the same thing, only eating their children’s leftovers. It affects girls in different ways. Their bodies become malnourished and you can see it from their appearance.”
The Hungriest Places on Earth is a creative comms project showcasing individual girls’ voices from corners of the world directly affected by the hunger crisis. By taking stories from each country affected by hunger, we present a globalised view of the hunger crisis across all regions of the world, as well as showing how Plan International is responding.
